Individual therapy
Individual work is the most used possibility of psychological help. It is a periodic coming together /usually once a week/ during which we focus on solving your difficulties or on your further personal growth. My therapeutic sessions always last one hour /60 minutes/. Average number of meetings with one client is twenty. Anyway this count is only approximate: whereas for somebody is sufficient to go through few sessions, another person needs regularly therapy for one or even more years. Thus it depends on the nature of your concerns. Generally there is a direct proportion between the time for which you leave your troubles unnoticed and the necessary therapeutic time.
How does it work? Mental problem doesn’t usually arise suddenly. Often express itself in that event, when a human behaves for longer time in a selfdefeating manner. Ordinarily a man doesn’t even know about this “harmful” behavior and doesn’t realize it. It is the task of a psychologist to provide the client some external perspective thanks to which the client realizes, what doesn’t function properly in his or her life and how to change it. Thus the aim of psychotherapeutic work is a change, which leads to better and more fully life experiencing. The list below offers several questions. In case you answer some of them affirmatively it could be the right time to consider psychological help. Of course it isn’t a comprehensive summary of all possible problematic situations:
Experiencing problems
Do you often feel dejected, as if you wouldn’t have any energy? Do you have depressions, gloomy thoughts or feelings? Do you feel terribly and don’t know how to handle your life? Can’t you easily decide for anything? Did you experience some tough event; do you still return back to it and can’t get rid of it?
Behaving difficulties
Do you have to check again and again whether you’ve really turned off the cooker, locked the apartment or the car and is it bothering you? Are you afraid that you mess everything up and therefore you rather don’t even try? Do you behave in the presence of some people differently and does it surprise you?
Environment concerns
Are you afraid both of confined spaces and of vast spaces? Do you worry to ride the elevator, to go by plane, to cross bridges or are you afraid of highs? Are you frightened of spiders, snakes or do you have another phobia? Does it drive you mad hearing some ordinary sound like crying or higher tones?
Somatic difficulties
Do you often suffer from a persistent pain and even physicians don’t know what to do with it? Do you experience painful states which don’t ease off even by medical treatment? Do you have intense bodily feelings /hotness, coldness, turning red, itching etc/ without any apparent reason?
Problems with relations and/or communication
Can’t you relate to other people and maintain close relationships? Are you feeling alone? Don’t you know how to communicate with people in your neighborhood? Do you feel like your intimate relationships proceed always the same way? Can’t you forgive your parents, friends or other people? Are you afraid of public performing? You don’t know how to refuse demands of other people?
These and many other difficulties we can solve together during our personal meetings. When dealing with relations problems the best option seems to be a combination of individual and group approach.
